WhatsApp to stop on your iPhone? Is yours on the kill-list? Check now – HT Tech

iPhone news

These iPhone users may not get to use WhatsApp from October 24. Here’s why.

WhatsApp has officially revealed its iPhone kill list! The Meta-owned instant messaging app will no longer support some of the older iPhones. This has also been confirmed by WhatsApp updates tracker WabetaInfo. It has indicated that WhatsApp is killing off support for iPhones which are running on iOS 10 and iOS 11. So, which iPhones are on the list? Those using iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c will not be able to use WhatsApp- the D-day is October 24.

And which other iPhones will not be able to enjoy WhatsApp? According to the report, all the iPhones currently running on iOS 10 or iOS 11 will stop getting access to WhatsApp. As iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C are not compatible with iOS 12, then these iPhone users will have to find other ways to communicate in place of WhatsApp or buy a new device.

The same fate is also looming for iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, but they have a lifeline. Thankfully, the owners are eligible to get the iOS 12 update, hence, if their phones are still running on iOS 11 or previous versions, then they can update their OS.

Why WhatsApp is removing the support for older iPhones

“To keep up with the latest advances in tech, we routinely stop supporting older operating systems to point our resources to supporting the latest ones. If we stop supporting your operating system, you’ll be notified and reminded a few times to upgrade your device to continue using WhatsApp,” the FAQs section of WhatsApp mentioned.

What should iPhone users do to get the best experience with WhatsApp

  • Update to the latest operating software: WhatsApp says that it supports iOS 12 or newer versions, but it is recommended to use the latest version available on your iPhone. You can update in simple ways – go to the Settings and then General, and tap on Software Update to get the latest iOS version.
  • Don’t use unlocked devices: WhatsApp suggests that modifications might affect the functionality of your device, hence the company can’t provide support for devices using modified versions of the iPhone’s operating system.
  • Ensure that your iPhone has SMS or call capability: To have a smooth experience of WhatsApp, ensure that your phone has the ability to receive SMS or calls during the verification process.
