iPhone news

Apple’s iPhone 13 launch has been clouded by the combination of a bug-ridden iOS 15 launch and radical next-generation iPhone leaks. And now there’s more bad news.

A new report seen by MacRumors, has revealed further details of Apple’s biggest iPhone redesign in years. But the revelations are not what many fans were hoping to hear.

Mysterious Weibo leaker @PandaIsBald, who correctly leaked the ninth-generation iPad in September, revealed that the iPhone 14 is “unlikely” to completely replace the notch with a punch-hole cutout and just make it smaller instead. This news is contrary to several exciting leaks, including from acclaimed Apple insider Ming-Chi Kuo, that the iPhone 14 will mark the end of the notch. And there’s more bad news as well.

@PandaIsBald also states that the much hyped return of Touch ID via an in-display sensor will not be happening with the iPhone 14 either. This means Apple will continue to rely on a single biometric option for the immediate future, despite ongoing concerns that Face ID is not the optimal choice in a mask-wearing world.

On the flipside, industry leaks continue to say Apple is working on a “complete redesign” for the overall look of the iPhone 14. This is tipped to be a reimagined titanium device that is part-iPhone 4, part Android-copycat. Despite many camera upgrades in the iPhone 13 range, another major camera upgrade is hotly tipped too while the iPhone 13 Mini will be replaced by a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max — a more budget friendly version of the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

All of which is likely to see interest in the iPhone 14 range skyrocket, whether or not the notch survives another generation. Yes, iPhone fans currently have more pressing concerns following the bug-filled iOS 15 launch (and limited success of iOS 15.0.1) but when planning purchases this expensive, it’s good to plan ahead.
