iPhone SE 3 5G launch tipped, Apple may already be planning event – India Today

iPhone news

Apple may kick off its series of events in 2022 in March or April. And this event may be dedicated to the launch of nothing else but an iPhone. According to a new report, Apple may launch the next-generation iPhone SE sometime in March or April. The event planning is already underway, and a virtual event is likely to take place in at least two months from now.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has said the 5G model of the iPhone SE may arrive in “just a few short months.” Citing his sources, Gurman said Apple will at least launch the next iPhone SE, which means that while this upcoming event will be meant for the launch of the 5G iPhone SE, there is a high chance that Apple will introduce some other thing, if not any other new hardware.

Since we are still too far from this event, the only thing we can focus on right now is the next-generation iPhone SE. That is also what Apple is currently focusing on, according to Gurman. There have been several reports around the third iteration of the iPhone SE, and nearly every one of them has pointed to the possibility of 5G support in it. The name of this model has teetered between iPhone SE 3 and iPhone SE 5G, which is why there are variations as to what this upcoming iPhone SE model will be called.

Why iPhone SE 3 is important

Call it iPhone SE 5G or iPhone SE 3, the next affordable iPhone by Apple will be important for markets such as India. In an earnings call last year, Apple CEO Tim Cook highlighted that iPhone SE has turned out to be a blockbuster phone in markets like India, so continuing the lineup makes absolute sense. And with 5G on the brink of its preliminary rollout this year in India, a 5G iPhone SE will drive sales.

iPhone SE 3 details

Apart from 5G, the iPhone SE 3’s design has been a topic of debate. While initial rumours suggested the next iPhone SE will look like the iPhone XR – with a notched display and a single camera on the back, some latest reports have hinted that it will retain the same old design, which is borrowed from the iPhone 8. If that happens, it would be three generations for that design, which is practically outdated. That may be a deal-breaker for many users despite the promise of 5G.

Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, too, said that the next iPhone SE model will not look like the iPhone XR but will go for the same iPhone 8 design. So, since improvements are not coming to the design, the phone’s hardware will be bumped up significantly. For instance, the iPhone SE 3 is said to use a new chip – probably the A15 Bionic that powers the iPhone 13 series. That means 5G, too.

More 2022 events

Gurman has also predicted what will follow the iPhone SE event. He said Apple’s next big event will be WWDC in June, where it is expected to announce iOS 16, tvOS 16, macOS 13, and watchOS 9. That is a routine for Apple, so nothing new. But there is no information yet on what new features these new versions of software will bring. Despite the expectation that this year’s WWDC will be an in-person event, Gurman has doubted that, saying “near certainty that the 2022 Worldwide Developers Conference will be virtual for the third year in a row.”
