The iPhone is more than a phone. It offers a wide selection of communication options. In addition to phone calls, texts and emails, it comes with Apple’s facetime software, which allows you to hold video calls with other Facetime users directly from your phone. In the age of podcasting and live streaming, playing music simultaneously while recording an audio or video can be a useful feature. However, if you are an iPhone user, you will probably notice that your device automatically stops playing music when you try to record a video or audio clip. It can be a major inconvenience if the goal is to add a soundtrack to a recording.
The good thing is this can be fixed.
Steps to record video while listening to music on the iPhone:
- Go to ‘Camera app’
- Keep your camera in the photo section instead of going straight to the video section
- Make sure your chosen music is turned on and playing in the background
- Hold down the white shutter icon you’d usually press to take a picture
- It will not start recording
- You can then choose to keep holding this down or drag it to the right side of the screen to lock it in place to keep recording
- Your music will still be playing in the background
- Tap the red square in the centre of the screen to end the recording
Steps to screen record while playing music on an iPhone:
- Go to ‘Settings’
- Tap on ‘Control Centre’
- Select ‘Customize Controls’
- Choose ‘Screen Recording’
- Make sure recording is enabled
- You can now play music while screen recording
- Tap the red reading icon in the menu bar to stop recording when done
- You can find your screen recording in the gallery
Steps to record voice while playing music on the iPhone:
- Go to ‘Settings’
- Tap on ‘Control Centre’
- From the list of options, select ‘Customize Controls’.
- Choose ‘Screen Recording’
- Head to the camera to start recording
- When done, turn the screen recording off
- To remove the video and keep the voice, you can have the help of a third-party app to convert
