Apple Inc. argued that it didn’t mislead consumers about the security and privacy of their iPhone communications as it pushed back against a lawsuit in New York federal court over a flaw that allegedly allowed for misdirected calls and messages.

The company’s privacy policies aren’t “a guarantee” against this kind of issue with its operating system, according to a legal brief Apple filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
